Hannah Nistler - Alumni Spotlight

Hannah Nistler, a PCGS alumna, built a career advancing sustainability at the municipal level. Before starting her master’s degree, she gained hands-on experience through initiatives like We Are Neutral. Anthony Halcyon, Senior Environmental Scientist, shared his personal journey from protecting °®ÎŰ´«Ă˝â€™s water resources to joining global research expeditions in Montenegro, where he helped document one of the last wild rivers. He reminded us that conservation is about listening to people, understanding local realities, and finding shared solutions.

The MARS Project focuses on growing plants for food and human interface in controlled environments such as off-grid autonomous growing units on Earth, the International Space Station (ISS), and in Moon and Mars colonies. The MARS Project was conceptualized by Dr. Joseph W. Dorsey and conducted in conjunction with the University of East London (UEL).

Scholarship awardees and Dean George Philippidis

Patel College awards $16,000 in scholarships

The Patel College of Global Sustainability honored a diverse group of students who are turning their passion for the planet into action at the Butz and Patel Distinguished Scholar Award Ceremony. The event awarded a total of six scholarships amounting to $16,000 (four $2,500 Butz Scholarship awards and two $3,000 Patel Distinguished Scholarship awards).

On Wednesday, October 15th, the Sustainability Speaker Series featured Dr. Dell deChant, an instructor in the Department of Religious Studies at the °®ÎŰ´«Ă˝. Dr. deChant also leads the USF Food Sovereignty Group and works closely with the New Port Richey FarmNet, where he promotes sustainable, community-based food practices.
