Getting Your Visa
Form I-20 and DS-2019
In order to be issued an I-20 or DS-2019, you must show a valid passport and proof of liquid funds. All documentation is submitted via iStart. You will receive an email once your document is created with instructions to download your USF I-20 or DS-2019. You must download and print it in color for your visa appointment.
SEVIS (I-901) Fee
You must pay the SEVIS (I-901) fee corresponding with the SEVIS ID (N#) listed on your document. Go to www.fmjfee.com and select Pay I-901 Fee. This fee must be paid prior to your visa appointment. Save a copy of your confirmation and retain for your records.
Applying for your Non-Immigrant Visa
You should apply for a US visa at the Embassy or Consulate in your home country. You will need to bring the following to your appointment: passport, I-20 or DS-2019, financial documents, SEVIS (I-901) fee payment confirmation, and admission letter. NOTE: Citizens of Canada and Bermuda do not need a visa stamp. At the US Port of Entry you should provide your passport, I-20, and SEVIS Fee payment confirmation (I-901) to apply for entry to the US.
Applying in Your Home Country
As of December 12, 2025, guidance, you should plan on applying for your non-immigrant visa in your home country. There are some exceptions for locations where visas are not being issued. In these cases, a designated location can be found at the below link.
