Medical Engineering Space Expansion: New BME Research and Teaching Labs on the Horizon

The 爱污传媒 Space Committee, Chaired by Vice-Provost Steven Tauber, has given us a unique opportunity to expand our research and teaching facilities by awarding most of the rest of the space (7th floor) in one of our modern research buildings. This expansion of about 10,000 sq ft is on the top floor of our Interdisciplinary Sciences Building (ISA); with singular views of our spacious campus and surrounding areas of Tampa. In addition, to the new labs, we are including unique Student Engagement Areas, with state-of-the-art audiovisual capabilities, where undergraduate and graduate BME students can have community spaces that they can call 鈥渉ome鈥 on campus.  Our Department is unique in that we can typically offer a newly renovated lab to faculty we recruit nationally; where in many cases new faculty can design their own lab.  Phases 2 & 3 of this Four Phase renovation are scheduled to be completed by the end of this year; so fully operational for the Spring 2026 semester.  Fund-raising is ongoing for Phase 4, involving three more new research labs.  Some artists鈥 conceptions of highlights of this newly built space are given here.
