For graduating Master of Social Work (MSW) students, the transition from graduate education to professional practice comes with a critical next step: securing clinical licensure.
During a March 13 session, Kim Roberts, LCSW, a visiting assistant instructor in the School of Social Work, provided practical guidance to help soon-to-be graduates navigate the pathway to clinical social work licensure with clarity and confidence.

MSW students learn about the clinical licensure pathway.
Roberts provided an overview of the steps involved in pursuing the Licensed Clinical Social Worker credential, including post-master’s supervised clinical experience, the licensure examination process, and the importance of planning ahead for professional development after graduation. She answered students’ questions, clarified what to expect as they begin this next stage of their careers, and briefly discussed licensure in other states, as well as the emerging interstate compact.
The presentation supported students’ professional preparation at a key point in their academic journey. Sessions like this help students connect their graduate training to next steps in the field and better understand the professional pathways available to them.
Roberts’ participation offered students practical information and direct engagement around licensure, career planning, and entry into practice. Her session contributed to the School of Social Work’s ongoing efforts to support students as they move from the classroom into the profession.
