Research Interests:
Assessment and treatment of challenging and interfering behavior for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities across the life span; evaluating the effects of psychotropic medication; and identifying effective methods to teaching parents and staff using competency-based training.
Jennifer Zarcone is an Associate Professor in the Department of Child and Family Studies and Co-Director of the , a University Center of Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (UCEDD). Before coming to USF Dr. Zarcone was the Chief Clinical Officer and the Director of the National Autism Center at the May Institute. Prior to that, she was an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at Johns Hopkins University Medical School and the Kennedy Krieger Institute. She received her PhD from the University of °®ÎÛ´«Ã½â€™s Department of Psychology, in the Experimental Analysis of Behavior Program.
Dr. Zarcone has served in several leadership positions for the Association of Behavior Analysis (ABAI), including co-chair of the ABAI Autism Conference, Chair of the Practice Committee and member of the Science Board. She is a Fellow of ABAI. She is also a past President of the Association of Positive Behavior Supports. She served as an Associate Editor for the Journal of Applied Behavior Analysis, the Journal of Intellectual Disabilities Research, and the American Journal of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. She was on the advisory board for the Women in Behavior Analysis conference for 5 years.
Dr. Zarcone provides consultation and clinical support to families and providers regarding challenging and interfering behavior, staff training, and developing clinical service standards. Her areas of research interest are in the assessment and treatment of challenging and interfering behavior for individuals with autism and intellectual disabilities across the life span, evaluating the effects of psychotropic medication, and identifying effective methods to teaching parents and staff using competency-based training.
